New Nemesis

August 24th, 2009 · 3 Comments

Monday night I finally grew some stones and hit Shawnee Mission Park for my inaugural bike ride. I didn’t think it was a good idea to go on the mountain bike trail because I hadn’t ridden a bike for years, so I stuck with the road that loops around the park.

If I would have gone on the trail I am 100% positive that I would have eaten dirt and seriously hurt myself or some one else.

I haven’t been to Shawnee Mission Park (SMP) for a long time, years, in fact. But I did know that this ride would be an ass kicker. But I didn’t expect it to be this much of an ass KILLA!

The hills on the south side of the lake totally chewed me up and shit me out. I even had to stop in the middle of a couple of the hills because of the burning in my thighs and glutes. It’s 10:30 p.m. now and my legs a still hurting, and they are going to much more painful tomorrow, and the rest of the week. But just to see how masochistic I am I’m doing the same thing tomorrow. But I’ll try the other direction. Today I went counter-clockwise.

If you’re not reading my tweets or Facebook status/links here’s is a link to a map. The map is made with my iphone.

When I started running it was my Mill Creek Park Route (that is another map link) that was my Nemisis, and I showed that Mo-Fo who the boss was in 6 short months.

I don’t like being shown up or put in my place. I’m going to beat those damn hills before the end of the end of September if it kills me I’m going to bust out a 30 min loop on that bitch before September 30th.  If I don’t I’ll just keep coming at it like a Spider Monkey until I get my 30 min.

Just another goal to add to the list.

Thanks for all the encouragement. You guys Rock.

I had a bike a few years back…I took it out for a ride in the park across from my apartment at the time, and after a 30 minute ass-kicking by the trail, I was basically walking the bike back up the last hill toward home when a couple of guys passed me, and one thought it was oh-so-clever of himself to call out, “You’re supposed to ride it, not walk it! Hahahaha!”

Yeah, I never rode it again, I was so embarrassed and felt like such a dumbass.

I guess it goes to show that riding a hill program on the bike at the gym is definitely not the same thing as riding real hills outside. Phew!

You keep it up man! Kick that park’s ASS!!! :D

F**K it up Darren … you can do it. Love the spider monkey comment. I am working my ass off too. Kelly had me hit the bag a few days ago … tore me up one side and down another. I about knocked his ass out the next day.
