Jury Summons

May 12th, 2008 · 10 Comments

A few weeks ago I was called to do my civic duty and report for Jury duty in the great city of Kansas City, Kansas. I have been ordered to report to the Jury Clerk at 0800 on Tuesday May 13, 2008. As per the instructions that accompanied said summons, I called the phone number after 5 pm last Friday. They said that I did NOT have to report and that my name would be tossed back into the hopper for a future trial.

When I got the summons in the mail a few weeks ago, I told my boss and made all the necessary arraignments to be off work for at least one day, possibly more.

So here is my dilemma should I take the day off with pay and nothing taken from my PTO balance, we get full pay for jury duty, or should I just come into work and tell them that I was not needed?

Although, I am busy I don’t have any deadlines looming just yet. If this were a Friday it would be a no brainer. Hell, yea I’d take the day off. I’m not one to pass up a 3 day weekend. But it’s a Tuesday, for cryin out loud.

What would you do? Take the wole day, half day, or go to work?

I’ll defiantly show up for work on Wednesday though.

I’m thinking come in around 10:30 or 11 and say that you showed up and they didn’t need you. You’ll be showing your commitment to the job (good for them), but also get to sleep in (good for you).

Does your job not require you turn in your jury duty check to prove that you went?

What happens a few weeks from now when your name gets pulled back out of the hopper and you actually DO have to go in for jury duty.

I say play it straight, go in to work and impress you boss.

Hate to rain on you parade, man. Just looking out for you.

Also, don’t you live in KC, MO? Why you getting called for jury duty in KC, KS? Weird.

Shane - I think that’s the best bet.

    Chimpo - Nope!

Emaw - I’ll worry about that then.

XO- Weather has nothing to do with it.

    Doc - None

Faith - I live in KCK not KCMO.

I’ll prolly just go into work.

The one and only time I was ever called for Jury Duty didn’t happen because Katrina took care of it. We were on our evacucation at your mom’s on the date I would have reported.

The “right Thing” as XO puts it is not the Fun thing…Stay at home read a book, watch a movie and rub one out…way better way to spend the day

And if coming in when you have a missed chance of Jury duty Impresses your Boss….seems like either your job isn’t hard enough of your boss is lame.
