As I was packing my gym bag the other day I started to think that I sure do take a lot of stuff to the gym. Does everyone else take this much crap? But the thing is I use all this stuff.
Here’s My list:
- Two pairs of running shoes. One to wear while on the treadmill, the other to wear home. It keeps your running shoes lasting longer.
- Under Armour spandex for the workout. I wear them under my shorts.
- Shorts
- Two tee shirts one to workout in, and the other to wear home.
- Two pair gym socks one to wear during workout one to wear home.
- iPod to ROCK OUT!! (duuurrrrr)
- iPod headphones
- Arm band for iPod even though I never use it. I just set the iPod on the shelf of the treadmill or elliptical.
- Watch/heart monitor.
- Heart monitor strap.
- Gum
- Baseball hat to wear home after the workout.
That list doesn’t include the cell phone, car keys, and list of hooker locations downtown.
I don’t shower at the gym so I don’t take any stuff for the shower.
Does that seam like a lot of stuff to you?
What do you take to the gym with you?

If you don’t shower there, why don’t you just put a towel in your car to sit on so your seat doesn’t get sweaty? Wear flip-flops after workout…lighter, easier to put on, and they let your damp feet air out from the sweat and heat of working out.
I just killed half of your gym bag.

That is FAR too much stuff. And I agree with the monkey…I’d be wearing flip-flops home, not another pair of running shoes. After a workout, I want my feet to breathe. That would cut out one of your pairs of socks as well.

I bring my ipod and a water bottle and maybe a towel. Walk in, walk out. Of course I’ve only been going to a gym for 2 weeks.

Where’s your workout towel???
I’m with DLC (and the other guys…sorta). Except I also have a small purse in which I carry my wallet, cell phone, and some kleenex, along with my gym card and my lock for the locker. I wear the clothes I’m working out in to the gym, and I wear them home from the gym..I change once I get home.
I can’t stand it when people don’t have a towel with them. If you’re getting sweaty enough to want to change SOCKS for the trip home, then you must need to wipe down the benches/machines when you’re done with them! It’s just nice for the other gym-goers.

Shane, Chimpo – I have plantar fasciitis so I have to wear arch supports in my shoes so flip flops are out. Plus flip flops are terrible for your feet.
DLC – If I worked out at the gym 2 blocks from the house I would too.
Faith – The gym supplies the towels. I sweat like a mofo. I ALWAYS clean the equipment after I use it.
I lock my keys, cell, wallet, and what ever else I don’t want stolen in my locker. The gym bag gets left out, because the lockers are about the size of a shoe box. If that get stolen I’m only out some clothes.
