We are really slow at the of salt mine. Just like every year at this time but this year we are REALLLLLy slow.

So slow in fact, that I haven’t charged and entire 40 hour week to a project all year.Ive been charging my time to overhead and training. I need to have 100% of my time chargeable to a costumer, or “billable time” as we call it.

So we had a meeting this week with the department manager and all of us designers. (I design mechanical systems, HVAC, piping, plumbing, I lay the systems out using AutoCAD and other drafting software.) The department manager said we have work coming in just not right now and a lot of our current projects are on hold by the client for whatever reason.

He suggested that some of us could go on a less that 40 hour work week, or a modified work week, or people might be temporarily switched to part time.

Eff that!

I looked at my PTO (paid time off) and realized I had a shit load coming to me.

I have an excess of 126.5 hours, that’s about 3 weeks of EXCESS PTO!

At the end of the year I’ll have 270.50 total hours of PTO that’s over 6 weeks of PTO I have to take this year.

So instead of having to put someone on a modified work week schedule for multiple weeks. I going to volunteer that I take one day off a week until all of my excess PTO is used up. Using 8 hours a week will take about 15 weeks.

By then we will be going full bore on the projects that are being negotiated now, and I’ll still have over 3 weeks of PTO left.

The good thing is the department manager assured us all that no one will be let go becasue we do have work coming down, it just not gotten to us yet.

My employer just spent a butt-load of money adding a 400 seat auditorium, fitness center, and a bunch of other improvements, to our world headquarters. I could careless about the auditorium and the building upgrades. It’s the fitness center that I’m excited about. There will also be 2 trainers working there before 8 am, during lunch hours, and after 5 pm. It’s going to be pretty sweet. And its all free to employees and their spouses.

I just have to get some new running shoes and I’m all set. (I got some new headphones yesterday).

So I’ve been researching some diets lately becasue I’m a Fatty Fatty Boom Balatty, and I’ve settled on these.

The main criteria for all of these is cost. I spend about 50 bucks a week at the grocery store. So the cost of any of these would need to be comparable to my grocery bill.

Vegan Diet – This place is close to my house and they deliver. Plus, I won’t have to do any of the cooking. If there is such a thing as “Vegan Cooking” (ZING!) I don’t think anyone has ever died from eating vegan so what harm could it do? It can’t be any worse that what I’m eating now.

Primal Diet – I’ve heard good things about this diet. But I really haven’t dug too far into it more research is needed.

Weight Watchers – Everyone knows this one. My concern is the cost. I’m not a Rockefeller for Petes sake.

Juice Diet – These guys are morons. Their web site is down for weeks because of too much traffic. Of course your getting a lot of traffic! Every one and their dong starts diets at the beginning of the hear. Idiots. I found out about this from a documentary I watched a few months ago on Netflix called fat Sick and Nearly Dead.

Stick with what I know – If you’ve been reading this site for years then you know that I lost 85 pounds 3 years ago and ran a 1/2 marathon. So I know how to do it.

If you’ve done any of these diet for even a short amount of time I’d like to hear your thoughts.

I’ll let you know what I choose.

If you’ve stuck with me for the past few months then you know that I’ve been busting my rear end on this project at work. The good news is that I not only made the totally unrealistic project schedule , but I was the only one to make it UNDER the deadline. The bad news is that it’s only 95% finished, even worse is that the last 5% is all coordination with other trades and updating the 2d objects, (2 dimensional objects have only length and width or as we call them only x and y coordinates) to 3d objects, (3 dimensional object have x and y coordinates, and a z coordinate, which is depth, or distance.) Converting those objects from 2d to 3d can take quite a bit of time and there are a lot to do, not to mention all the coordination.

But I have a month to do it so I should have plenty of time.

So, now I can finally start concentrating on what I should have been concentrating on for the past 3 months, and that is my disgusting fat body. I haven’t have time to workout since November of last year, but I’ve kept with the diet, sort of. I’ve still put on weight. Last week I had time to do some running after work. I’ve digressed a lot more than I thought I would in just 5 months time, so I have a lot of work to do before October. That’s when my goal race occurs.

I don’t know what my weight is right now but I’m guessing somewhere in the neighborhood of 200-220. I’ll be weighting in after work Monday night. If I weight more than that I might just freak the fuck out. I mean a total postal freak out!

After I weight in Monday I’m going to quite that gym. It sucks, if I lived downtown it would be a lot more convenient. If I live closer it wouldn’t be to bad, but it’s too far to walk. There’s a better gym just 2 blocks from the house with yoga, zumba, (I don’t know what it is either), pilates, and some other classes that I could take but probably won’t, it’s just nice that they are offered at no additional cost, I think. (Sweet! Just looked and the class are free.) Plus this gym might have girls in it which is total bonus, but it’s not like I’d talk to any of them, I’m there to workout not hit on the hot chicks… riiiiiight…

Anyway, The goal has always been the same, to get my BMI into the normal range, which is 18.5-24.9. In order to reach that I have to weight anywhere between 122 lbs – 161 lbs. I’ll let you know tomorrow what all the starting numbers are but now you know what the goals are going to be for this year and beyond.

See ya then!

Peace out, Boy Scout.
